Women's Basketball Charges Into Tough Competition This Weekend

Fresh off a weekend at the Basketball Alberta College and University Showcase, Women's Basketball tips off on Friday night at the University of Winnipeg's Duckworth Centre in the BOB FM Shootout against local Canada West rivals, Winnipeg Wesmen and Manitoba Bisons and OUA's Lakehead ThunderWolves who apply their trade in the Ontario University Conference.

"The competition will obviously a step higher than what we play in our own conference," said second-year forward Emily Mann, "but we know alot of the players on each team from high school and club basketball and even some former teammates here, so we have a good idea of what to expect."

Tianna Mighty and Tiara Licsi both members of the 2014-15 CMU Women's Basketball team have moved from the MCAC into the CIS with the Manitoba Bisons program this season and will meet tip-off on Friday night against many former teammates.

A key for us to keep ourselves in the games will be our discipline to playing our style," added Mann, "we need to make sure we follow our game plan and not allow ourselves to allow the other teams to dictate the style of play."

Mann and the Blazers suffered losses to Concordia University and Briercrest College in Edmonton and took a convincing win over King's University College in their final Alberta preseason game last Saturday. All three teams are members of the Alberta Collegiate Athletic Confernence; a division of the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Conference that the Blazers have found good parody with over the years in Women's Basketball.

CMU begins this BOB FM Shootout on Friday night when they tip-off with the Manitoba Bisons at the Duckworth Centre at 8 PM. Twenty-four hours later, CMU will face Lakehead University at 8 PM and on Sunday morning the Blazers will complete their weekend with a 12 PM game against the University of Winnipeg Wesmen.
