The Pita Pit Female Athlete Of The Month - February

Congratulations to Marijka Yaschyshyn of Women's Futsal on being selected the Pita Pit Female Athlete of the Month for February. It's been a long road to recovery for the graduate of Winnipeg's College Jean Sauve who had a knee injury delay her rookie season with the Blazers by a full year, but the midfielder has found her stride on the futsal court and is getting stronger and stronger with every match.

As CMU completed their round robin schedule for the 2016 Copa de la Paz on February 26th, Yaschyshyn was all over the game sheet with both CMU goals in a 2-2 draw with USB. Earlier in the week, the Bonivital Soccer Club product led her team to a massive 4-3 win over the Red River Rebels to secure their first ever first-place regular season finish as the team now prepares for this weekend's MCAC Championship, hosted at CMU on Saturday, March 5th.

In total, Yaschyshyn led CMU to a record of 6-1-1 and finished second in conference scoring with 13 goals in 8 matches. The futsal pivot hopes to lead her team to their first championship since 2009 and their first ever trophy in the sport of futsal.

"It has been awesome to see Marijka recovery this year," said co-head coach Cara Isaak, "she has turned a corner this semester and she shows how confident she is by being so physical on the court. She is so determined to score goals and she is doing that in a variety of ways."

You can see Yaschyshyn and CMU in action this Saturday morning when they kickoff in Match #1 of the 2016 El Campeonato of the Copa de la Paz at 11:30 am versus the #4 ranked ACC Cougars. With a win, CMU will compete against the winner of Saturday's second women's semifinal between the #2 Red River Rebels and #3 Brandon Bobcats, in the 2016 Women's Futsal Championship Saturday at 6 pm.
