Men's Basketball Continues To Put Final Touches On 2016-17 Roster
As many high school students around the province are busy preparing for Graduation 2016, Vincent Massey Collegiate's Bryden Bukich made time this week to suit up and sign on with the CMU men's basketball program for the 2016-17 MCAC and NIAC seasons.
After finishing sixth in their zone, the Vincent Massey Trojans advanced the the 2016 MHSAA 'AAAA' Boys Provincials last season. Ranked #9 in Manitoba, Bukich and the Trojans upset the #8 ranked Dakota Lancers before bowing out of the quarterfinals with a loss to the eventual 2016 Provincial Champions, John Taylor Pipers.
"Bryden is a very blue collar player," said head coach Billy Isaak, "he's a tough defender, great rebounder and overall a really hard worker."
Bukich averaged 14 points per game with 8 rebounds in his final high school season to earn selection to the Basketball Manitoba Graduating All-star festivities and was selected a tournament all-star at the St. Vital Invitational.
"Added to Bryden's grit, he brings a very high quality offensive game," added Coach Isaak.
Bukich finished his Winnipeg Minor Basketball career with the Manitoba Rebels and also played seasons with Mayhem and Mavericks ni his youth development.
The Blazers travel to Alberta on October 6th for preseason action against the ACAC's Briecrest Clippers, Ambrose Lions and a team yet to be determined, then return to Winnipeg to open their MCAC campaign against the Providence Pilots on October 21st.
