Jason Friesen - February's Recovery Spot Athlete Of The Month

Congratulations to Jason Friesen of Men's Volleyball on being selected the Recovery Spot Male Athlete of the Month for February.

The fourth-year setter played a major role in his team's best ever MCAC regular season, ending with a record of 17 wins with only 3 defeats and on Sunday captured the first MCAC Championship in Men's Volleyball for CMU with a straight sets win over #3 USB Rouges.

"Jason is such an intelligent setter," said head coach Don Dulder, "he excuted our gameplan to a 'T'. He knows who to set and when to set them. It is partly the game plan and partly his intuition."

In Sunday's Conference Championship Final, Friesen collected 31 assists of the team's 38 total kills over the three set match.

"When you have a diversified attack like we are able to run, you need to have a great setter to run your offense," explained the third year head coach, "we have many plays that we use to exploit weaknesses and utilize our strengths and Jason runs all of our ideas to perfection. He also knows when to dump the ball and his height is a big advantage for us."

Friesen collected 3 kills of his own on front row dumps in Sunday's MCAC Final and added 3 stuff blocks to help his team earn CMU's first Men's Volleyball Championship banner.

Friesen is one of three fifth-year players intending to return to the Blazers rotation in 2017-18 to defend their 2017 MCAC Championship. The others includes outside hitter Joel Kliewer and libero Thomas Friesen.
