Men's Soccer Begins 2018 Recruitment Signing Brazilian Playmaker

As Men's Soccer prepares to compete in the 2017 MCAC Final Four Soccer Championships this weekend the Blazers are pleased to announce the commitment of São Paulo's Victor Hugo Gomes de Abreu, beginning with the 2018 MCAC Futsal season and continuing onto the soccer pitch in the 2018 MCAC soccer season next September.

The 20 year-old product of São Paolo league youth club, Vila Galvão, has been most recently wearing the shirt of Clube e Remo at the senior amateur level in Brazil.

"Victor Hugo is a fun technical player to watch and play with," explains head coach Russell Willms, "he plays with a driven style and has good vision to create chances for his teammates and himself. He plays with a smile and it is evident that the game brings him joy. It will be a pleasure to have him with us."

Abreu spent five months in Winnipeg this summer where he studied English Language before returning to Brazil in September. The left-footer has already spent a year of Production Engineering study at University of Guarulhos but intends to study Business and Theology at CMU. Abreu joins fellow Brazilian, Juliano de Souza Jr from Campinas, Brazil, who came to CMU from Cloud State College in Kansas, who is currently in his second season with the Blazers.

The #4 ranked Blazers will meet the #1 ranked Providence Pilots on Saturday afternoon at 2:15pm at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex. After suffering a 4-1 defeat in their first meeting of the season, CMU and Providence played to an exciting 1-1 draw last Saturday afternoon in their penultimate matches of the regular season. The topsy-turvy 2017 MCAC Men's Soccer Season has seen the Blazers collect 6 draws in their 10 regular season matches, recording ties against all five MCAC opponents.
