Caitlin Fennell: November's CMU Blazers Women's Athlete Of The Month

Congratulations to Caitlin Fennell of Women's Basketball on being selected the CMU Blazers Women's Athlete of the Month for November. Winners of nine in a row, Fennell and her teammates have been riding high lately, sitting on top of both the MCAC and NIAC Women's Basketball standings.

Central to the success of the team, Fennell has been a consistent performer under the hoop for the Blazers as a scorer, defender and rebounder. The 5'11 product of Thompson's R.D. Parker Collegiate counted 11 points and 12 rebounds against the Red River Rebels on November 12th in a big home court win and came back the following weekend with 9 points and 11 rebounds at home against the Providence Pilots.

Averaging 8.00 rebounds per game, the second year forward sits in 2nd place among the MCAC Rebound Leaders and is 5th in the conference in productivity when on the court.

"Caitlin is a big leader on our team," said head coach Joe Di Curzio, "as one of only three veterans Caitlin sets a great example. She brings a high level of intensity with an amazing work ethic. She is a terrific scorer and a superb passer. We count on her to get those tough baskets and hard-fought rebounds."

The Blazers open the second half of their 2017-18 season on January 5th on home court against the Red River Rebels. This will be the first time the two rivals will meet each other in a game that will hold importance in the NIAC standings. The Rebels and Providence Pilots have joined forces with CMU in the Northern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for the 2017-18 season. The Blazers next major home NIAC action will take place February 2nd and 3rd with CMU hosts the Sisseton-Wahpeton Mustangs.
