Fresh off a MCAC Championship campaign, CMU Women's Basketball is pleased to announce the commitment of Madison Wood for the 2018-19 MCAC and NIAC seasons. The 5'9 Morden Collegiate guard averaged 26 points per game for her 'AAA' high school season for the Thunder who went undefeated through their 2018 regular season before dropping a close decision in the interzone championships last weekend.

Wood was selected as the Most Valuable Player at Carman Collegiate Tournament, a Tournament All-Star at Elm Creek and won a Player of the Game Award at the St. Norbert Collegiate Tournament. The multi-sport high school athlete was also selected as the Morden Collegiate Female Athlete of the Year in 2017.

"Madison is an outstanding student, athlete and basketball player," said CMU head coach Joe Di Curzio. "Along with her amazing athleticism, Madison has the uncanny ability to attack the basket and is a terrific finisher at the rim or she can dish off assists to her teammates. Defensively, we can match Madison up against anyone in our conference."

Wood demonstrated her offensive impact in her Grade 12 season by scoring a career game-high 37-points while proving her ability to make her teammates better as well, averaging 9 assists per game. Wood has led her high school in scoring for each of the past three seasons and captained the Thunder in her Grade 11 and 12 seasons.

Morden Collegiate head coach Merv Roller spoke highly of Wood's refined skill set, "Madison is a great interior and exterior player, a great teammate and a great competitor. On offense, she can break a lot of ankles with her crossover and she has perfected her euro-step near the basket. She is dedicated to keep improving her skills."

Wood has played her club basketball with Winnipeg's Junior Bisons program.
