Men's Soccer Inks Dynamic Member Of Bonivital National Championship Team

Men's Soccer is very excited to announce the commitment of Bonivital Soccer Club's Yeri Concepción for the 2018-19 MCAC Soccer and Futsal seasons. Born in the Dominican Republic, Concepción and his family immigrated to finish high school at Winnipeg's Fort Richmond Collegiate, but not before the attacking midfielder impressed as a high school soccer star in his homeland.

At the Copa Coca-Cola National High School Championship Tournament, Concepción was selected the Most Valuable Player from all Dominican high schools after leading his team, Collegio Babeque Secundaria, to a National Championship. The then 15-year old travelled with Copa Coca-Cola Most Valuable Players selected from a list of other countries, to an elite training trip to Germany as part of the Coca-Cola development program.

Since moving to Winnipeg, Concepción has continued to be a part other successful team programs. In 2016, Concepción's Bonivital Flames u16's won the MSA Cup Provincial Championship and advanced to a second-place result at the Canadian National Championships. Last October, Bonivital made provincial soccer history, winning the u17 National Championship in New Brunswick. At the Manitoba Soccer Assocation's "Night of Excellence" last weekend, Concepción and his teammates were recognized as the 2017 Manitoba Soccer "Team of the Year".

"Yeri is a great addition to our program," said head coach Russell Willms, "I was happy to be involved in the recruiting of such a talented player like Yeri. Yeri is a very determined player and he backs that up with good technical skills and elite speed. He creates opportunities to go forward every time he is on the ball and he is a relentless runner. Yeri will come in and combine very well with the style of play with the other attacking players already in our program."

Watch for more incoming student-athletes like Concepción who are signing letters of intent with the Blazers to compete in the MCAC in 2018-19. For more information about athletics at CMU, email athletics:@:cmu.ca or visit us online or on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram.
