Versatile Green Valley and Junior Bisons Star Signs With CMU Women's Volleyball

As volleyball club programs prepare to compete at the annual Volleyball Canada Club National Championships, CMU Women's Volleyball is happy to announce the commitment of Green Valley School and Junior Bisons product Vanessa Friesen for the 2018-19 MCAC Season.

The versatile 5'8 hitter from Grunthal helped her high school to their first ever 'AA' Girls Volleyball Provincial Championship last season, earning personal recongnition with the 2017 Player's Choice Award and later as a 'A-AAA' Graduating All-Star. Friesen featured mostly as a middle hitter in her Grade 12 season with the Pirates.

"Vanessa has played two seasons for me now and has commanded my admiration for her work ethic and passion," said current Junior Bisons 18u head coach Joe Moore. Moore served as head coach of the CMU women for the 2013-14 MCAC season and is currently an assistant coach with the USports Bisons at the University of Manitoba. "She embodies all of the characteristics that are required to not only be a successful contributor to the CMU program and the MCAC, but most importantly in life."

Swinging from the right side with her club team, Friesen helped Junior Bisons to a second-place finish at the Best of the West Tournament earlier this season in Calgary and settled for fourth-place in April at Manitoba Club Provincials in Steinbach. Friesen and her Junior Bison teammates depart for Edmonton on Saturday to battle Canada's best 18u girls teams at the 2018 National Championships.
