As Open Tryouts are in full-swing around the MCAC, CMU Athletics is pleased to announce the additions of Men's Soccer and Futsal players Paul Odedina and Matheus Moreno to the program.

Odedina is a graduate of Fort Richmond Collegiate in Winnipeg, joining former high school teammates Will Anderson and Yeri Concepcion as rookies with the Blazers this season. Odedina helped the Centurions to a Manitoba High School Division 1 Indoor Soccer Championship in 2016 and played recreational youth club soccer with Whyte Ridge Community Club from the u16 to u18 level.

Most recently, Odedina has been compete in the Manitoba Major Soccer League with the premier division's NKMB Saints and has previous senior-level experience with Jamaican Lions.

"Paul is a strong, fast, physical striker," said new Blazers head coach Anderson Pereira, "he is the kind of attacking player that a good team needs to hold up play, bring other players into the attack and score goals. I think he will be a very strong player in the MCAC and make a big impact."

While Odedina is set to make his MCAC debut this Sunday against the USB Rouges, Moreno will wait to make his first appearance with the Blazers when they transition to the futsal court this winter.

Moreno will be a rare MCAC player to have his footballing-roots in futsal, making his transition to the soccer pitch at the age of 12 in his native Brazil. Now 21 years old, Moreno started futsal at age 8 with Piedade Futsal Club in Rio de Janiero and then onto Bradesco Futsal Club in Rio's first division to the u17 level.

In Manitoba to study English since January 2018, Moreno joined Pereira, assistant coach Cesar Carvalho and CMU midfielder Victor Hugo Abreu as members of Team Brazil, to win the 2018 MSA Mini World Cup.

"Matheus is very good futsal player and will be an exciting player for fans to watch this winter," said Pereira, "he has a very good feel for the flow of movement on the court, excellent passing vision and can finish with either foot." Matheus expects to make his MCAC futsal debut on January 12th against the USB Rouges.
