Camille Plett: September's Lionheart Sports Female Athlete Of The Month

Congratulations to Camille Plett of Women's Soccer on being selected the CMU Lionheart Sports Female Athlete of the Month for the month of September. The fifth-year striker has made the most of her opportunities to score goals for the Blazers, counting 11 of her teams 12 markers during the month. In Week 2, Plett scored back to back hat-tricks in a 3-3 tie with the ACC Cougars and in a 4-1 defeat of the Providence Pilots.

The following weekend CMU soccer travelled west for a series of friendlies with the ACAC's Ambrose Lions and SAIT Trojans in Calgary. On September 21st Plett counted both goals for the Blazers in a 2-1 victory over the Lions, one coming from open play and one from the penalty spot. Despite losing 3-1 to the Trojans on September 22nd, who ended the month ranked #3 nationally in the CCAA, CMU managed to be the first team to score against the ACAC powerhouses. Again it was Plett who found the finishing touch late in the match for the Blazers; her third goal of the weekend.

"Camille has been crucial in our team's offense this season," said co-head coach Lianna Bestvater. "She has shown real confidence in taking on defenders and shooting from distance and she has also given us show great looks from set pieces," added Cara Isaak; the other half of the CMU head coaching partnership.

Plett began her university soccer career with the University of Manitoba Bisons but after three seasons with the USports program, decided she needed a change on scenery. Plett led MCAC Women's Soccer in goal-scored in 2017 and then exploded with 27 goals scored in the Blazers undefeated futsal season that ended in the program's first MCAC banner in the conference's newest league sport.

Last weekend, Plett managed her team's lone goal in a 1-1 home draw with the ACC Cougars. She currently sits second in the conference with 8 goals scored in 2018. The next action for Plett and the Blazers is Saturday, October 6 when CMU hosts the Red River Rebels at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex.
