Daniel McIntyre-Ridd: September's Lionheart Sports Male Athlete Of The Month

Congratulations to Daniel McIntyre-Ridd of Men's Soccer on being selected the CMU Lionheart Sports Male Athlete of the Month for the month of September. The third-year centre half has had a prolific month as a mainstay in the CMU starting eleven while forcing his way onto the scoresheet by adding two goals.

"I knew coming in that Daniel was an excellent player but he has really exceeded my expectations in the first half of the season," said new head coach Anderson Pereira. "He is an example for the other players on and off the field, working hard as a quality defender who can also get forward and score goals from set pieces."

McIntyre-Ridd has been a key part of a few big results this month for Men's Soccer, beginning with a 2-2 tie against the defending MCAC Champs, USB Rouges on September 9th and two positive scorelines from Alberta against the ACAC's Ambrose Lions and SAIT Trojans that the CCAA should note.

After defeating Ambrose 3-1 on September 21st, McIntryre-Ridd scored his first goal of the 2018 campaign at the midway point of the second half against SAIT on September 22nd to give his team a brief lead. Currently ranked #1 in the country, McIntyre-Ridd potted a go-ahead goal from a CMU cornerkick to give the Blazers a 2-1 advantage. The Trojans would tie the score a few minutes later but a 2-2 result against the CCAA's top squad was a monumental acheivement for the CMU program.

"Daniel played a major part on us coming from behind against SAIT, not only doing an amazing defensive job but also scoring an important goal for us," added Pereira. "he is ABSOLUTELY one of the best defenders in the MCAC, if not the best!"

On Sunday afternoon McIntyre-Ridd was at it again, scoring his second goal of the month in a 10-0 win over the last place ACC Cougars. Men's Soccer ends September sitting fourth in the conference with a record of 2-1-2. The next action for CMU is Saturday, October 6th when they host the Red River Rebels at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex.
