Julia Schatkowsky: November's Lionheart Sports Female Athlete Of The Month
Congratulations to Julia Schatkowsky of Women's Basketball on being selected the CMU Lionheart Sports Female Athlete of the Month for November. The sophomore forward has been a big factor in the Blazers 6-0 start to the 2018-19 Northern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Regular Season.
The 6'1 product of Winnipeg's Vincent Massey Collegiate has proven herself to be a match-up challenge for all of CMU's opponents this month, averaging 21.2 points per game in her team's six wins. Schatkowsky's biggest offensive weekend came on November 23rd and 24th when she dropped 25 on the Red River Rebels in a 60-22 win and followed that with 28 against the Turtle Mountain Mighty Mikinocks the very next day in Belcourt, North Dakota in CMU's 87-63 win.
"Julia has been playing outstanding basketball this month," commented Women's Basketball Head Coach Joe Di Curzio. "She has been a powerful force from the perimeter and a terrific inside player too. Defensively, she has led us in blocked shots as well and has taken on a major leadership role as one of our four veterans."
Schatkowsky's offensive consistency was on display to finish the month, scoring 19 and then 21 points in her final two games of November, leading the Blazers on both nights.
With the month of December clear of competitions, Women's Basketball steps back on the court on January 4th in Thief River Falls for exhibition action against Gogebic College of the US National Junior College Association and January 5th against Dakota College at Bottineau. The next home action for Schatkowsky and the Blazers is January 11th and 12th when CMU hosts Trinity Bible College in conference play.
