Renee Desroches: January’s Lionheart Sports Female Athlete Of The Month

ren

Congratulations to Renée Desroches of Women's Volleyball on being selected the CMU Lionheart Sports Female Athlete of the Month for January. Beginning with a third-place finish at the OCAA mid-season 2019 Adidas Cup tournament in Oshawa, Desroches and the Blazers have retained their first-place position in the MCAC through the month of January, holding an advantage of two match-victories over second-place USB, (who have a match in hand on the Blazers) in the race for the conference's top-seed in February's Final Fours.

The 5'5 second-year setter helped CMU to a conference record of 4-2 during the month of January and had peak statistical performances in a 3-1 victory on January 11th versus the Red River Rebels and January 25th in as the Blazers 10-game conference winning streak came to an end with a 1-3 loss in Brandon to the ACC Cougars.

A 2018 MCAC All-Conference selection in her rookie season, Desroches posted 42 assists against the Rebels on January 11th while adding 6 kills and 2 aces, while helping defensively with 9 digs. As the Blazers battled to keep their winning-streak intact versus the ACC Cougars, Desroches did her part to supply the CMU offence with attacking opportunities, scoring a season-high 52 assists while adding 4 kills and 7 digs on January 25th.

"Renée has shown herself to be one of our team leaders on and off the court," said head coach Roy Rodriguez. "Her aggressive style and the excitement of a quick offense has given her the ability to run it (our offence) wherever and whenever possible. Renée has the ability to get the ball to the right players and the right times."

The Dauphin Regional and Brandon 'Cats volleyball-product averaged 10.17 assists per set during the month of January. Desroches and the Blazers enter the stretch run of the 2018-19 MCAC regular season this weekend with a single weekend match on Friday night in Otterburne versus the 2-10 Providence Pilots who are coming off a split in their weekend series against the USB Rouges.
