Royal Arrival Spells First Step in 2019-20 Men's Volleyball Arrivals

CMU Men's Volleyball is pleased to announce the commitment of Lord Selkirk's Cam Gayleard as the first official signing of the 2019-20 MCAC season. Blazer's head coach Don Dulder praised the 6'1 left-side for his leadership and well-developed offensive and defensive game, when asked about his new recruit. "Cam has excellent leadership qualities as demonstrated by his being captain of his Selkirk 'AAAA' high school team," said Dulder, who will be entering his sixth season with the Men's Volleyball program. "He is an extremely good backrow player, a good passer and attacker - a quality person who will fit in well at CMU."

Dulder is also pleased with the success that Gayleard has had through the Selkirk Royal high school program. "Cam comes from one of the best AAAA volleyball programs in the province and as a result, is accustom to playing at a high level. We are really excited to have him coming to join us."

Selected as a Manitoba High School Graduating All-Star Honourable-Mention earlier this year, Gayleard led the Royals to a KPAC championship in his Grade 12 season at Lord Selkirk and a run at the 2018 AAAA Provincials that saw the Royals defeat Westwood and St. Paul's before facing a Gold Medal defeat to the Dakota Lancers. With the Royals, Gayleard was member of a Provincial Championship program in 2017 and also as a Junior Varsity Athlete in 2016.

"Over the four years I have worked with Cam I saw him mature in the way he plays on the court as well as how he takes care of himself off the court," said Sekirk Royals head coach, Jeff Scarcello. "Cam is a very determined and hard-working player who knows how to fill the holes of whatever gaps our team had. He has a team-first attitude."

Gayleard enjoyed club success as a member of the Selkirk Royals Club program as well as Winnipeg Rush, where he played from the 13u to17u level.

Men's Volleyball is in action this weekend at the Universite de St-Boniface in their final regular season action of the 2018-19 MCAC season. The Blazers have wrapped up the top-seed entering the 2019 MCAC Championships that will take place on February 23rd and 24th at Providence University College in Otterburne, Manitoba.
