Jana Klassen: February's Lionheart Sports Female Athlete Of The Month

Congratulations to Jana Klassen of Women's Volleyball on being selected the CMU Lionheart Sports Female Athlete of the Month for February. Klassen helped the Blazers clinch top-spot in the MCAC standings with a big away match-victory on February 9th at USB. The fourth-year left side led her team lead with 12 kills with only 4 errors while adding 3 solo blocks, 1 service aces and 8 digs in the win. Klassen also started the month of February, with a 16 kill performance with 4 solo blocks, 2 aces and 14 digs on February 2nd versus Providence.

"Jana has been an excellent leader for us throughout the season," said CMU head coach Roy Rodriguez. "Her passion for the game is contagious around her teammate and she has been a strong player for us in all aspects of the game. On the offensive side, she is someone the team looks to and spreads the offense to others. Defensively, Jana's intensity and drive gives the team energy."

Klassen was recognized with her first MCAC All-Conference selection, tying Red River's Ashley Goodwin for top vote-getter as the two talented left sides shared co-Most Valuable Player honours. The Calgarian's best statistical performance came last weekend in the MCAC Women's Volleyball Championship final where Klassen recorded a career-high 21 kills while adding 2 solo blocks, 12 digs and led her team in passing percentage. Klassen also led her team offensively with 12 kills and defensively with 15 digs, in CMU's semifinal three-set win over the fourth-seeded ACC Cougars.
