Men's Soccer Kicks Into Recruitment By Signing St. Charles Attacker

Fresh off a very successful 2018 MCAC Men's Soccer campain that saw the Blazers lift their first Conference Championship trophy since 2005, CMU has inked St. Charles Force Premier striker Solace Janzen Kornelsen for 2019-20 season.

"As speedy front-man, Solace has the speed and technical abilities to be an effective winger in our conference and also has the vision and passing-ability to allow him to contribute to the attack from a position behind the strikers," said former CMU head coach Russell Willms, who was involved in recruiting Janzen Kornelsen through his final years of youth soccer. "I believe Sol will be a valuable player for the program going forward."

On top of St. Charles Force, Janzen Kornelsen also spent the summer of 2017 playing across town with Winnipeg's Phoenix Soccer Club before returning to St. Charles for his final season of youth.

The newest Blazer shares a special link with new coach Anderson Pereira. Like many CMU players, Janzen Kornelsen spent time training under the influence of former Winnipeg Fury star, Chico Andrade at Chico's School of Soccer Excellence. As a regular contributor in the Juventus starting eleven in the Manitoba Major Soccer League, Pereira has played under Andrade as his head coach for the past three seasons.

"I've been able to connect with Sol through futsal this past winter and I could tell right away that he would be a perfect fit for our team," said Pereira, who just returned from Futsal Canadian Championships with Pioneers FC, representing Manitoba. "He is an excellent guy with lots of potential and I'm sure he will be a great addition to our team. He will be able to understand our style of playing, right from the start, and help our group in reaching our goals this season."

Janzen Kornelsen will soon be kicking off the 2019 Manitoba High School outdoor season with his Kelvin Clippers. The Clippers recently won the MHSAA Division 2 Indoor Championships this past winter.
