Women's Soccer Scores Kildonan East's Tenacious Midfielder Kabonesa

As Manitoba High School Soccer kicks off in Winnipeg this week, CMU is very happy to announce the commitment of former Portage Trails premier youth and current Kildonan East Reivers midfielder, Miriam Kabonesa for the 2019 Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference Season.

Described by her coaches as a relentless-running holding midfielder who closes down opponents quickly, Kabonesa was a big part of the PTSC club program in her age category to the under-15 level, winning the Cambrian Challenge Cup in the 2015 indoor season until the west-Winnipeg club was reintroduced as the St. Charles Force.

Since her club career dissolved, Kabonesa has focused on school soccer, beginning at General Wolfe where she captained her Junior High to three consecutive division championships and was twice named her school's Athlete of the Year. Now in her grade 12 year at Kildonan East, Kabonesa is ready to kickoff her final condensed season of MHSAA urban high school season with the Reivers in the always challenging KPAC division.

"Defensively, Miriam is a very strong tackler and in attack, she shows good vision and has the technical ability to help us get organized in our possession," said co-coach Lianna Bestvater. "She can make plays out of the back when she wins us possession. I think she will be a real asset to our program next season."

Kabonesa's style of play has always lent itself to the praise of her coaches, evident in numerous Coach's Awards that she has received during her high school career, among them the female recipient of the 2018 Jerry Mackie Award.

Though the 2019 MCAC schedule is not due to be released publicly until June, CMU has scheduled a mid-September non-conference weekend of friendlies against Albertan opponents, Medicine Hat Rattlers on September 14th and Lethbridge Kodiaks on September 15th. Both programs compete in the ACAC, a division of the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Assocation.
