2019 MCAC Women's Soccer Regular Season Schedule Released

On Wednesday, the newest regional conference of the CCAA, the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference, released their 2019 Women's Soccer schedule. There will be no rest for the defending 2018 Champions from CMU, who will kickoff the new season on home turf at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex on September 7th under the leadership of fifth year co-head coaches Lianna Bestvater and Cara Isaak.

NOTEABLE DATES

SEPTEMBER 7th

Week 1 will see the Blazers renew the MCAC's longest women's soccer rivalry with the Providence Pilots with a 3:15pm kickoff. CMU and Providence played to a 1-1 draw through 90 minutes of regular time and 30 minutes of extra time in the 2018 MCAC Women's Soccer semifinals last October, with the Blazers advancing to the Championship Final on the back of a penalty shootout win. September 7th will be the first time that CMU and Providence lock horns in 2019.

SEPTEMBER 14th-15th

Week 2 will see CMU travel to Alberta as part of their CCAA probationary commitments to challenge the Medicine Hat Rattlers and Lethbridge Kodiaks who both compete in the ACAC's South Division. The CMU men hosted Medicine Hat in 2013, dropping a 4-1 decision to their western neighbours. September 14th will see the CMU women kickoff for the first time against the Rattlers. The Blazers will follow that with a trip further west to tackle the Lethbridge Kodiaks. Lethbridge qualified for the ACAC playoffs in 2018 with a record of 6-4-2.

OCTOBER 20th

Since the Women's Soccer program was reintroduced at USB in 2016, Les Rouges have continued to climb the ladder of the MCAC each season. CMU will have to wait until the final weekend of the regular season to meet USB at home, in a match where rivalries will be renewed and potential playoff places will be decided. Justin Legare's side struggled at times through the 2018 outdoor season, missing the Championship Final Fours, but after rebounding to win their first MCAC trophy in the indoor futsal season, Les Rouges have become the front-runners in the race for the 2019 MCAC Women's Soccer Championship race.

KICKOFF TIMES

All MCAC varsity sporting events will adopt non-traditional gendered start times in 2019-20. All CMU Women's Soccer matches will begin at 3:15pm, while the CMU men will play first at 1:00pm.
