2019-20 MCAC Women’s Volleyball Regular Season Schedule Released

On Thursday, the newest regional conference of the CCAA, the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference, released their 2019-20 Women's Volleyball schedule. Like the soccer schedule, released on Wednesday, the Blazers will open their season at home against the Providence Pilots with the volleyball edition coming to the Loewen Athletic Centre on October 30.

NOTEABLE DATES

September 20th-21st

CMU opens their 2019-20 preseason schedule with their first-ever trip to British Columbia where the Blazers will compete at Douglas College in tournament action against some of the top PacWest and ACAC programs including the host Douglas Royals and the defending National Women's Volleyball Champions, VIU Mariners from Naniamo in this 10-team competition in Burnaby.

November 8th

The Blazers open a Week 10 home-and-home series on Friday night with a re-match of the 2019 MCAC Women's Volleyball final against the Red River Rebels. Ranked #3, the resilient Rebels went on a mind-blowing run last February all the way to their first-ever Championship in Women's Volleyball. First, the Rebels came back from two sets down to defeat the USB Rouges in the conference semifinals and then, Red River outlasted the Blazers in the Gold Medal match to capture the 2019 MCAC banner. A strong year of recruitment for the Rebels should have the defending Champions as an early favourite to make their way back into the 2020 Final Four.

February 19th

Though missing out of the Final Fours for the first time in program history last season, the Providence Pilots were also the hottest team in the MCAC in the second half of the season, holding the conference's longest winning streak of 6 consecutive wins. The Blazers will close out their regular season home schedule on Wednesday, February 19th against their long-time rivals in a match that is sure to have playoff implications.

FIRST SERVE TIMES

As part of an MCAC initiative, all Men's and Women's Volleyball matches in 2019-20 will take on non-traditional gendered start times. Weekday evening (including Friday) matches will see the women's matches begin at 7:30pm with Saturday afternoon matches beginning at 1:30pm. As a new feature of a 2019-20 schedule that has expanded to 20 matches, the Blazers will also play two Sunday afternoon matches in 2020, both with first serve scheduled for 3:30pm.
