Driven Rebels' Defender Settles For New Home With CMU

It's been four summer's since Gode Katembo was listed high on the CMU Men's Soccer recruitment list. The former Team Manitoba Provincial program participant would settle on Red River College to begin his MCAC career where he played a key role in a dominant Rebels' team that went to the 2016 Conference Championship, losing only one game in the regular season.

Fast forward to 2019 and the former Portage Trails PR1 youth star will be reuniting with his Rebels' captain now CMU head coach, Anderson Pereira, more than excited to wear the forest and gold kit of the Blazers for the season.

"Gode's work rate is out of this world," said Pereira of his former teammate. "He will always give everything his has for the team. He is the type of teammate that pushes you to do your best every training session. He is an excellent player with good distribution skills and is really calm on the ball. I believe that his style of play will only bring up the intensity of our team, making Gode a great addition."

After finishing his youth career, Katembo moved in the senior ranks of the Manitoba Major Soccer League with Internationale and has jumped around to various Winnipeg clubs. His passion for youth and love of the game led Katembo into coaching as well, beginning the PTSC under-14 boys when the new Blazer was still in Grade 12 at Windsor Park Collegiate.

More recently, Katembo has been coaching children in soccer at the Spence Neighbourhood Association and serves on the board of the Manitoba chapter of the African Cup of Nations where he is coaching his native Congo, consisting of players aged 17 to 26.

CMU begins their 2019 MCAC season at home September 7th versus the Providence Pilots at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex.
