2020 MCAC Men's Futsal Regular Season Schedule Released
The sport of futsal enters a new decade in the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference who stand as the only regional conference of the CCAA, driving the international version of "indoor soccer" with a full regular season schedule. CMU, who started it all when they hosted the very first Copa de la Paz conference-wide futsal tournament in 2012, will open their 2020 home schedule on January 31 versus the team who's initials decorate the cup the most number of times, including the very first team to lift the Copa de la Paz; Les Rouges de USB.
NOTEABLE DATES
January 11th
CMU will not have to wait a moment to square off with the Brandon Bobcats. The 2020 regular season schedule sees the 2019 Copa de la Paz finalists renew acquaintences in Game 1 from Brandon, where the defending champions will host their first MCAC Futsal Championship Final Four, March 7th and 8th. The Bobcats emerged victorious at Red River College last March, blanking the Blazers 2-0 to lift their first-ever MCAC trophy after defeating CMU 7-5 and sharing points in a 3-3 tie in their two regular season meetings of 2019.
February 8th
Get ready for a Saturday night of entertainment when Men's Futsal welcomes the Providence Pilots to the Loewen for a mid-season encounter. Employeeing the unique strategy of the "flying goalkeeper" for much of the regular season in 2019, the Pilots' tactics will challenge a CMU team that prefers to possess the ball. This back and forth brain-session should be an interesting one for futsal enthusiasts as CMU seeks out a home win and a return of the Copa de la Paz to the gym where it all began.
KICKOFF TIMES
As part of an MCAC initiative, all men's and women's futsal matches in 2020 will take on non-traditional gendered start times. Men's matches for Friday and Saturday evenings will kickoff at 6:15pm while double-header matches on Saturday will see men's start times scheduled for 11:15am and 4:15pm.
