2020 MCAC Women's Futsal Regular Season Schedule Released
Though not yet a thriving sport at the CCAA-level, the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference released their 2020 regular season schedule for Women's futsal on Friday afternoon, continuing to be the only regional conference in Canada to offer futsal in a full regular season, Tier 1, format. CMU kicks off the 2020 season on January 11th with a pilgrimage to Brandon to face the Brandon Bobcats and ACC Cougars.
NOTEABLE DATES
January 31st
The Blazers may be somewhat road-weary when they finally step into the Loewen for their home debut in 2020, after beginning the campaign with four away matches. Their opponent to close out January will be none other than the defending Copa de la Paz Champions from USB. Les Rouges and CMU have clashed in the Championship Final of MCAC Women's Futsal in both 2018 and 2019, with each of the two Winnipeg-based teams taking turns at lifting the cup. CMU hopes that home court proves to be the advantage they need to gain an upper hand on the defending conference champs.
February 15th
The Rebels ended CMU's 16-match winning streak in 2019, defeating the Blazers 7-2 at the Loewen in regular season action last year. CMU exacted revenge when it really counted, edging the Rebels in Copa de la Paz semifinal action at Red River College in March. In 2020, one day after Valentine's Day, this Saturday matinee is certain to entertain as the Route 90 rivals kickoff a late season derby.
KICKOFF TIMES
As part of an MCAC initiative, all men's and women's futsal matches in 2020 will take on non-traditional gendered start times. Women's matches schedule for Friday or Saturday evening will kickoff at 8:00pm while double-header matches on Saturday will see women's start times scheduled for 1:00 and 6:00pm.
