2019-20 NIAC Men's Basketball Regular Season Schedule Released

Monday afternoon marked the day for the final schedule of the 2019-20 regular season to be made public by the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference, that being the Men's Basketball schedule for the three MCAC members competing south of the border in the American Midwest's, Northern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The CMU Men's Basketball roster reset will look as fresh as the new 2019-20 schedule when rookie head coach Scott Martin gets his first look at the international conference with a home preseason test against the Turtle Mountain Mighty Mikinocks to start the month of November.

NOTEABLE DATES

October 4th

Driven to see MCAC basketball counted with the other five Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association regional conferences, CMU will travel west to Alberta to begin the 2019-20 preseason, putting their competitive level on display against the Ambrose Lions and Olds Broncos. But first up on their Calgary tour will be a visit to St. Mary's University where the Blazers will battle a Lightning team that met CMU in Winnipeg last September, edging the Blazers by a margin of less than 10. Though the drive may be 14 hours, the Blazers will have ripe memories of 2018 and expect this date with STMU to be one where a win is certainly reachable.

November 22nd

CMU welcomes back the AFLBS Conquerors who last visited Winnipeg in 2017. The NIAC opponents split their weekend series in Plymouth, Minnesota in the 2018-19 regular season schedule and met again in the conference quarterfinals in South Dakota, with AFLBS eliminating the higher-seeded Blazers with an upset victory. CMU will not overlook the Conquerors this season and are sure to be focussed and ready to defend home court when they meet for two games, beginning on Friday night.

February 1st

The playoff were not kind to the Blazers on either side of the border in 2019. One week prior to their NIAC quarterfinal exit, CMU were topped on home court by the third-ranked Providence Pilots who advanced to the MCAC Men's Basketball Final and traded blows with powerful Red Rive for four entertaining quarters only to eventually succumb to the more experience Rebels. The Blazers have vowed to protect their "house" in the new campaign and as the 2019-20 NIAC season comes to a close, this away and home series will be one worth circling and even making the trip south to watch Game 1 in Otterburne on January 31.

TIP-OFF TIMES

Unlike other MCAC sports in 2019-20, Men's Basketball will follow a normal format for start times, with Women's Basketball action taking place prior to men's as members of the US-based conference for both weekday and weekend evening tip-offs as well as Saturday and Sunday matinees.
