Ezri Trump: September's Lionheart Sports Female Athlete of the Month

Congratulations to Ezri Trump of Women's Soccer on being selected the CMU Lionheart Sports Female Athlete of the Month for September. In her first month of MCAC competition the rookie has planted herself as a regular in the heart of the Blazers' midfield from opening weekend through five conference matches and is yet to be substituted off the field.

"Ezri has played every minute of every game for us so far this season, except for a few minutes in Alberta," said co-head coach Cara Isaak, "she's won every header she's challenged for and has been one of our strongest tacklers in every game. She is vocal on the field and extremely smart. She sees the field well and is excellent in her movement off the ball."

Trump demonstrated her awareness of space and her ability to read the game in last Saturday's 2-0 victory over the ACC Cougars. The former Dakota Lancer anticipated the path of the ball as it was played from a wide area into the feet of her teammate, Hannah Neufeldt. Trump timed her run and calculated her distance away from Neufeldt to create a perfectly-timed combination, allowing her to comfortably receive the pass, then shoot on target to score her first MCAC goal; the game-winner in CMU's first win of the 2019 season.

"Ezri's fitness and athleticism really sets her apart," said Lianna Bestvater. "She's very determined to win possession back for our team and in her central position on the field, she is constantly around the ball. She makes it very difficult for the other team to play passes into their midfielders and when she gets on the ball, she loves to play passes forward behind their defence to put pressure on them."

After five matches played, Ezri and her teammates are locked in a battle for fourth-place, currently sitting tied with the Brandon Bobcats for the final playoff position with 4 points, halfway through the campaign. CMU are in action this weekend beginning on Saturday in Otterburne against the third-place Providence Pilots before returning to the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon to host the ACC Cougars.
