Matthew Page: February's Lionheart Sports Male Athlete of the Month

Congratulations to Matthew Pagé of Men's Volleyball on being selected the CMU Lionheart Sports Male Athlete of the Month for February. Pagé was in the spotlight for the Blazers MCAC Championship win last weekend, coming up big on two critical fifth set rallies to win points for his team including an amazing stuff block for the match-winner.

During the month, Pagé lifted the Blazers to a record of 7-1, their only loss coming in five sets to the Providence PIlots on February 7th. That night, Pagé was in top form, scoring a season-high 12 kills and shining defensively with 16 digs to lead his team. The 6'2 right side averaged 5.67 kills over 2.67 sets played per match in February and finished the regular season with CMU's third-highest kill total (87) and second-highest totals in digs (74) and aces (28).

A key blocker and server for the Blazers, Pagé registered his highest total of blocks on February 1st when he stunned the ACC Cougars with 5 blocks in just two sets-played and connected for a match-high 3 aces on February 19th, the result of his wandering jump-float serve.

"Matt's blocking was huge on the weekend as we matched him up against the other team's top left side attacker," said CMU head coach Don Dulder. "It was only fitting to see him get the championship-winning point with a stuff block. His blocking alignment, penetration and shaping of his body, is excellent. His attacking was also extremely valuable as it took pressure off of our left sides. Matt also served extremely well. He jacked up his game and was a major reason for our team's victory."
