Olympiens Prepare To Reunite As Derco-Todd Commits To CMU

Lauren Derco-Todd recently confirmed her plans to join the CMU Blazers in 2020 as the 5'6 guard signed her letter of intent for the Manitoba Colleges and Northern Intercollegiate Atheltic Conference seasons. Derco-Todd was a teammate of Reyna Reyes and Anna Pyne while at south-Winnipeg's College Jeanne-Sauvé for her Grade 11 season. Together the three led the Olympiens to a third-place finish in the ultra-competitive SCAC division in 2019. While Reyes and Pyne were helping CMU to 2020 MCAC and NIAC banners, Derco-Todd was leading Jeanne-Sauvé to a even better 2020 with the Olympiens who finished second in the SCAC only to have their provincial hopes dashed by Covid-19.

"Lauren has terrific point guard skills," said CMU head coach Joe Di Curzio, who enters season 9 with the Blazers in 2020. "She is excellent at setting up her teammates, she can really attack the basket and finish, plus she is a terrific outside shooter. At Jeanne-Sauve this year she had a role as a team leader and was a top scorer."

Derco-Todd averaged 15 points per game to go with 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals in her final year of high school and was recognized as both an SCAC All-star and an MHSAA 'AAAA' Girls Graduating All-star.

"Lauren was an impact player in our program," said Derco-Todd's high school coach Sonia Radi. "She came to CJS in Grade 9, ready to contribute and make a difference in our basketball program and that is exactly what she has done. All season I had coaches come up to me to compliment how tenacious and gritty of a player Lauren is. They remarked that she is "one of those kids that will go to bat for you." Lauren is all that and more. Her dedication, passion and leadership skills will definitely serve her well as she moves on to CMU. I am so excited to see her join her former teammates and make an impact in a big way for another program."

Derco-Todd, Reyes and Pyne are scheduled to open their 2020-21 NIAC season on home court, November 6th and 7th when they host the Free Lutheran Conquerors (Minneapolis, MN) and Turtle Mountain Mighty Mickinocks (Belcourt, ND). The first MCAC opponent on the calendar for the Blazers comes December 4th and 5th as CMU wraps up their fall semester schedule with a home and home against rivals, Providence Pilots.
