Former Kodiak Ens Is Ready To Roar For Blazers

After receiving the honour of Sports Woman Of The Year at Winnipeg's River East Collegiate in 2019, Lauren Ens has decided to return to the volleyball court in 2020-21, making it official with her recent letter of intent signing with the CMU Blazers.

Ens contributed to some of Manitoba's strongest club volleyball programs during her career. At the 16u level, Ens helped Dynamo to a 2nd place finish in the Manitoba provincial championships and a silver medal at Westerns. Prior to that, she teammed with recent CMU-signing Leia Jaworkski to power Shock to a Provincial title and a bronze medal at Westerns as 15u's.

CMU's Jayme Menzies is excited to announce the commitment of the 5'8 left-side turned libero and believes that Ens will bring alot to the team.

"We're so pleased to have Lauren join the team," said Menzies who is entering her second season as head coach of the program. "She possesses all of the qualities you could ask for in a teammate - encouraging, respectful, hardworking, kind and the list goes on. Additionally, her ball control and knowledge of the game will raise the team's level of play."

A well-rounded athlete, Ens also was heavily involved athletics while a student at River East, competing on the track in middle and long distance running and was part of a 2015 Provincial Champinoship team with the Kodiaks at Volleyball Manitoba's Grade 9 Open.

The 2020-21 MCAC women's volleyball season is scheduled to start play in mid-October while the Blazers' hope to begin preseason competition at the Red Deer College Tournament in late September. Due to Covid-19, all sport participation in Manitoba is currently on hold with further plans including rules and restrictions on a return to play expected to be announced from the provincial health authorities soon.
