Northlands Parkway's Penner Boosts CMU in Men's Volleyball

The 2020 MCAC Men's Volleyball Champions continue to add to their roster, recerntly signing Northlands Parkway Collegiate's Nathan Penner to a letter of intent. After being voted his team's best Grade 11 player in 2018-19, the 6'4 left-side led his Winkler, Manitoba high school to the SCAC 'AAA' Final in his senior year earning high praise along the way. He capped his varsity boy's career with recognitions as a tournament all-star at Provincials, an SCAC all-star and and finally a Volleyball Manitoba graduating all-star.

"I think Nathan has a huge upside," said CMU head coach Don Dulder. "He is a real team-player and according to his high school coach, Pat Alexander, "you will love him." Nathan can be a real pull-away pin hitter for us. He gives our team valuable depth right now and I believe he will develop into a real team leader down the road."

Penner started club volleyball with Aztecs as a Grade 9 player and has stayed with the Winkler-based program throughout his youth development. Competing against the top-programs in the Manitoba, the highest finish at a provincial championship with Aztecs came a the 15u level, then Penner helped his team to a third-place finish.

Off the volleyball court, Penner has excelled in both baseball and badminton and competes in a local men's beach volleyball league as well.

As things stand today, Penner and the Blazers' are scheduled to begin their 2020-21 preseason in Red Deer, Alberta in late September before the opening of the MCAC men's volleyball regular season in mid-October. Working with the MCAC, the CCAA and Volleyball Manitoba, CMU is working on a number of different plans for the season, all under the umbrella of Canada Volleyball's plan for a safe and health return to play in Manitoba.
