Women's Volleyball Welcomes Sturgeon Heights Middle Ridd

The CMU Blazers are very happy to announce the commitment of Sturgeon Height's Collegiate's Faith Ridd for the 2020-21 MCAC season. Perhaps the 5'11 middle attacker's greatest success came at the 15-u level when she guided her Junior Wesmen club team to a 4th place finish at the Canadian National Championships. In her final season with the Junior Wesmen, Ridd captained her team to another strong performance at Nationals; this time a 10th place finish.

"Faith's strength, work ethic and well-rounded skill set will be a very welcome addition to our team. I am confident that she will meaningfully contribute to our team both on and off the court," said CMU's Jayme Menzies, who will enter her second season as head coach of the program.

Ridd finished her amateur club career with newly formed Bandits Volleyball at the 18-u level, only to see the season cut short this spring due to the pandemic.

As an athlete at Sturgeon Heights, Ridd helped her west-Winnipeg high school to a third-place finish in the WWAC in her senior year despite a serious injury set back during the season. The Huskies girl's volleyball program entered an era of success during the WWAC Allstar's time in the program, evidenced by zone finishes of 1st, 2nd, 2nd and 3rd during her four years.

On top of that, Ridd earned a selection to Team Manitoba as a 15 year-old to participate in the Canada Cup.

The MCAC season awaits the return of sanctioned training and competition through the governance of Volleyball Manitoba. The provincial sport organization recently announced their approved plan for volleyball's return to play stages, coinciding with the Province of Manitoba's Stage 3 of re-opening. The month of July will see the return of beach volleyball to the province (2 v 2 competition) while all forms of indoor volleyball, including training, sanctioned camps and competitions will be considered at a later stage with subsequent Provincial government re-openings announcements.
