New Year Brings New Recruit For CMU Women’s Volleyball

It's in with the new! The CMU Blazers are opening 2021 by welcoming Steinbach Christian's Annikah Reimer for the 2021-22 MCAC season. A leader for both school and club, Blazer's head coach Jayme Menzies describes Reimer as, "the quintessential teammate and the athlete that every coach dreams of having in their gym."

On the court, Reimer demostrates her versatility, athleticism and volleyball IQ, by swinging either from power or from opposite for her club team, Junior Pilots. At Steinbach Christian, Riemer leads her team as a setter where she helped the Flames to a Zone 13 banner and fourth-place finish in the Manitoba high school 'AA' provincials in 2018 and another zone banner in 2019, when the then Grade 11 student was recognized as her team's Most Valuable Player.

Off the court and on the sand, Reimer and her partner claimed a top 8-finish in the 2018 Manitoba high school beach volleyball provincials.

Menzies highlighted Reimer's speed, agility, technical capacity and competitiveness as some of the solid physical characteristics that will help the 5'6 outside hitter transition from club and high school to the college-level in Manitoba.

"I'm excited to have the opportunity to play the sport I love at a high level," said Reimer. "Meeting new teammates and experiencing highs and lows together is something that I am looking very much forward to."

The 2021-22 season marks the first season that the winners of the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) championship will have pathway to a National Championship with the CCAA. The MCAC along with five other CCAA member conferences; PacWest (BC), ACAC (Alberta-Sask), OCAA (Ontario), RSEQ (Quebec) and ACAA (Atlantic) will take part in the Women's Volleyball National Championship tournament that is scheduled for March 2022 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
