Women’s Volleyball Adds Linden Christian’s Bartel To 2021-22 Squad

The CMU Women's Volleyball program is happy to announce the commitment of Linden Christian's Rachel Bartel for the 2021-22 MCAC season. Despite seeing her senior season with the Wings cancelled due to the pandemic, the versatile 5'8 athlete has enjoyed plenty of success at the 'AAA' level including two seasons in the varsity program.

After helping the Wings to a Provincial Championship at the JV level in 2017, Bartel made the early move to the varsity program in her Grade 10 season, guiding Linden Christian to a third-place finish, followed by a silver-medal performance at the 2019 Provincial Championships as a Grade 11 athlete.

"Rachel is known for her unwavering work ethic, competitive drive, and athletic versatility," said CMU head coach Jayme Menzies. "Her mastery of all skills will raise the caliber of our practice and allow her to contribute in a few different positions during matches."

In the club circuit, Bartel has developed her abilities through Winnipeg's Dynamo Volleyball Club since age 13. Successes at the club level include a Manitoba provincial championship at 13-u, a provincial silver medal and national bronze at 14-u and a national silver medal at 16-u (Division 2).

Adding to her national volleyball exposure, Bartel travelled to Halifax in 2019 with the Manitoba Youth Team to compete in the Canada Cup.

"Playing volleyball after high school has always been in the back of my mind," said Bartel. "But after watching the CMU women's team win the MCAC championship last season, I saw the high level of play and a competitive team that I thought I would love to be a part of. The strong volleyball program, coaching staff and positive community peaked my interest and I am excited to contribute to the program."

The 2021-22 MCAC season marks the first year of full-membership in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Conference for CMU and the Manitoba's regional conferencce, the MCAC. Among the many benefits that come from belonging to the CCAA, for Manitoba's MCAC athletes inclusion in the CCAA National Championship tournament is certainly the most significant. The 2022 CCAA Women's Volleyball Championships are scheduled to take place in Halifax next March.
